Beaucastel 2006 - En primeur offer Until 16th November 2007 2006 was another superb year in the Southern Rhône. The defining factors in the vintage were the cool (cold even) nights in August, the rainfall on 6th August (which meant that, unlike in previous years, the vines did not suffer from a lack of water during ripening) and the exceptionally sunny and warm weather thereafter. We were in the region for much of August and can confirm that this was a spectacular summer for another great vintage. All the 2006s from Châteauneuf's top estates should be worth buying. As a result, according to Marc Perrin, the 2006 at Beaucastel looks like being “un grand millésime with very good ripeness, but also plenty of freshness and lovely acidity. This is a big wine, though not a blockbuster in the American style - wonderfully balanced, ripe and supple. It reminds us in some ways of the 1988 and will age equally well.” The same applies to the Coudoulet de Beaucastel, which is made from a very similar, though less complex, blend on the same stony soil across the N7 in the Côtes du Rhône appellation.
