Beaucastel 2016 En Primeur offer

What the Perrins say: "The 2016 vintage in the Southern Rhone is exceptional; the wines taste wonderful, offering a lot of freshness and balance. They show beautiful texture, tannic structure and ripeness on all the grape varieties. This exciting vintage that is taking shape in our cellars reminds us of 2010, 2000, and more and more like 1990."

The wines are fresh and balanced with gorgeous textures and pure fruit. Comparison with the stellar 1990 vintage is apt, given that 2015 was compared with 1989; however, with modern equipment and improvements in winemaking, it is probable that the newer releases will ultimately outshine their older siblings. All the wines are organic.

We have been very persuasive this year and have managed to secure an increased allocation of the special cru wines - Selections Parcellaires - the family produce in Gigondas (Clos des Tourelles and L'Argnee) and Vinsobres (Hauts de Julien). These are in some ways, even better than Beaucastel itself and anyone with a serious interest in these wines should certainly look at these.

In order to facilitate the enthusiasm of enthusiasts whose pockets do not run deep enough for a case of everything (and that's most of us!), we have put together a mixed case of six bottles which is only available duty paid (but will be invoiced 'under bond' at this stage). All other wines are available in bond (see below for more information about this).

Red wines
Coudoulet de Beaucastel, Côtes du Rhône 2016 Rouge (12x75cl) @ £132 IB
Red fruit on the nose follows through with an intense explosion on the palate. This is a Coudoulet that can be enjoyed young. Lively but tamed tannins and pretty fruit.

Château de Beaucastel, Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2016 Rouge (6x75cl) @ £240 IB
Coudoulet on steroids! Very ripe, intense and rounded with a rich, velvet mouthfeel. Ripe fruit with a hint of chocolate. Quite tannic with good acidity, so built for ageing although, no doubt, we will be opening a bottle around Christmas 2018 to see how it is getting on. Great potential, rich and long.

Domaine de Clos des Tourelles, Gigondas 2016 (6x75cl) @ £144 IB
From the showcase of the Famille Perrin vineyards, a 10ha property in one of the best sites in Gigondas on the sandy mid-slopes of the appellation. Very low yields so very small quantities available (we consider ourselves very lucky to have an allocation). Seamless, gorgeous mouthfeel. Perfectly integrated with a medium-to-full body. Red/black fruit. Gigondas at its very best! Needs time for the tannins to fully integrate but this will be a joy. Aged in oak casks for 15 months.

Gigondas 'L'Argnee' 2016 (6x75cl) @ £144 IB
Superior quality - a noticeable step up from the regular cru  wines from the Perrins, as expected. Very concentrated and intense with luscious fruit and texture. Will go on - superb. Aged in one-year-old foudres for 12 months.

Vinsobres 'Les Hauts de Julien' 2016 (6x75cl) @ £99 IB
Oakier flavours than the two Gigondas cuvees at present but this actually makes it more immediately accessible. Very full fruit flavours. Gorgeous. Extremely elegant. 15% aged in oak for 12 months.

Mixed case @ £126.50 IB
One bottle each of Beaucastel, Clos des Tourelles, L'Argnee and Les Hauts de Julien with two bottles of Coudoulet, all from the 2016 vintage.
Please note that you will be invoiced the IB amount at this stage; duty, VAT and delivery will be invoiced when the wines are available for delivery in late 2018. Sorry but we cannot store mixed cases under bond.

Please email us with your orders, questions etc.
