Mas de Daumas Gassac 2016/17 En Primeur offer What the Guiberts say: "The 2016 vintage is an iron hand coated in velvet. 2016 is characterised by tremendous freshness with ripe fruits (blackcurrants) and spicy notes, and a very long, elegant palate. This wine presents excellent concentration of fruit and is currently ageing in our underfround Gallo-Roman cellars."Vineyard management changed in 2016 with the reintroduction of horse-drawn ploughing and sheep grazing in the vineyard as an alternative to mechanical weed control during the early part of the growing season.
Mas de Daumas Gassac 2016 Rouge (6x75cl) @ £120 IBThe low-yielding vineyards of MDG average over 40 years and make some of the Languedoc's finest and most long-lived wines. The red, a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and numerous other varietals, has explosive fruit and great natural elegance which will make this accessible in its youth but with the ability to age. The 10-15% new wood used in ageing this wine helps with its texture without imparting any oak flavours.
