Tasting Notes: One of the most impressive young wines I have ever tasted, Stéphane showed this to me alongside his superb 2005. It is even better! The depth and purity of fruit is incredible. The wine is very concentrated with a nose that draws you in for more. Tasted alongside the very good 2005, the 2006 shone out. Probably the best standard wine produced at this estate – and one of the very best wines of the vintage.
All wines from this estate | Drinking Dates: 2012 to 2028 | Cépagement: 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 6% Syrah, 2% Counoise, 2% Cinsault (60-year-old vines) | Upbringing: 3 week fermentation in cement vats where it remains for another 10 weeks for malolactic fermentation before being transferred to oak casks for 12 months. Bottled unfiltered | ABV: 14.5% | Critic Reviews: "Blackish crimson. Meaty molasses notes from what is obviously a very concentrated cocktail. One of the spiciest, most arresting noses among these 2006 regular bottlings. Big boned with a hint of yeast extract/Marmite. Serious, lots of effort in here. Still some drying tannins on the finish. Very serious wine." 18/20 ( Jancis Robinson MW)
"Juicy and direct, with a solid beam of raspberry ganache and fig fruit backed by hints of shiso leaf, spice and mineral on the long, slightly taut finish." 90/100 (Wine Spectator) |
