Tasting Notes: Wines from Roggeri tend to be rather tannic and this is no exception but they will blend in in time. Lurking behind, though, is some excellent fruit so this needs to be treated as a classic Barolo for the long term. | Drinking Dates: 2016 to 2026 | Cépagement: 100% Nebbiolo (Lampia) planted between 1957 and 1999. | Soil: Calcareous clay soil with good depth of blue marl, starting from three to six feet deep | Upbringing: Maceration in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature around 28 degrees. Follature (punching down) for about two weeks. Aged in French oak barrels and barriques, medium toast. Bottled in August of the third year following the harvest and aged for at least six months.
| ABV: 14.5% | Critic Reviews: "Subdued aromas but all necessary elements are there: black cherry fruit, orange rind and cinnamon sticks. Very fresh, juicy fruit palate, dark, bitter chocolate flavours and ripe, firm tannins. Excellent use of oak on this full-bodied wine. Very good potential." Decanter Award 18.67/20 (Decanter) |
