Tasting Notes: Probably the best wine in the portfolio and certainly the most traditional with oak to support the ageing and texture of the wine but never apparent on the flavour spectrum. refinement and elegance are the watchwords here. Texturally, it's the equivalent of the new amphora-aged wines which are becoming increasingly fashionable.
All wines from this estate | Drinking Dates: 2024 to 2040 | Cépagement: 50% Grenache, 50% Syrah (50-year-old vines) | Soil: Stony terraced vineyards on alluvions and molasse facing full south. | Upbringing: 18 month elevage in 80% in concrete and 20% in older barrels. | ABV: 14% | Critic Reviews: 'Equal parts Syrah and Grenache, destemmed and brought up in 50% new barrels and 50% tank. It has plenty of obvious minerality as well as copious blue fruits, as well as peppery herb, violet and spice-driven aromatics. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has ripe, polished tannins, perfectly integrated acidity, and one heck of a great finish. Despite the new barrels, this is a pure, clean, classic and elegant Gigondas in every way' 95/100 (Jeb Dunnock)
'Saturated violet color. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes an array of mineral- and spice-
accented red and blue fruits, vanilla, incense and potpourri. Deeply concentrated yet distinctly
energetic, this wine also o!ers vibrant black raspberry, cherry-cola and mulberry flavors that are
complemented by licorice, candied dates, mocha and black pepper suggestions. The wonderfully
long, penetrating finish features youthfully chewy tannins and resonating blue fruit, floral and oak
spice notes. Give this substantial wine enough time for the oak elements to get to know the fruit
better. Raised 50% in new oak casks and 50% in concrete vats.' 95/100 (Josh Raynolds, Vinous) |
