Tasting Notes:
A small quantity was produced - less than 1/3 normal production - helping to make this is a very successful wine in a trickier than usual vintage.
Drinking Dates:
2013 to 2020
Cépagement:
30% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, 5% Cinsault, 15% other varieties
Upbringing:
Handpicking and hand-sorting is followed by flash heating of the berries to 80°C and cooling to 20°C. Classic maceration in open-topped wooden vats for Syrah and Mourvèdre and in lined concrete vats for the other varieties.
ABV:
14%
Critic Reviews:
“A candidate for one of the top wines of the vintage. While the normal production from their nearly 200 acres of vineyards can be as high as 200,000 bottles, only 60,000 bottles were produced in 2008. It exhibits a deep ruby/purple hue along with scents of creosote, liquorice, smoked herbs, blackcurrants and graphite. This rich, heady, beautifully made 2008 should evolve for 10-15 years. It is somewhat of an outlier for the vintage.” 94/100 (Wine Advocate)
