Tasting Notes: Seemingly sweeter than most vintages but this will shake off with a bit of bottle age. Mourvèdre is stunning in 2010. Tannins are ripe and acidity good enough to support quite long ageing so, all in all, this is classic top quality Beaucastel, one not to be missed.

| Drinking Dates: 2015 to 2040 | Cépagement: 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise and 20% other permitted varietals | Upbringing: Handpicking and hand-sorting is followed by flash heating of the berries to 80°C and cooling to 20°C. Classic maceration in open-topped wooden vats for Syrah and Mourvèdre and in lined concrete vats for the other varieties. | ABV: 14% | Critic Reviews: "This is a gorgeous wine, a classic blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise and the balance the other permitted varietals in the appellation. Deep purple, with loads of bouquet garni, beef blood, blackberry, kirsch, smoke and truffle, this wine is full-bodied, rich and showing even better than it did last year. I still think it needs 3-5 years of cellaring, and it should last for 25-30 years, as most of the top vintages of Beaucastel do." 90/100 ( Parker), November 2012 |
