Tasting Notes: The Barbera Ruge is simply stunning with a roundness not often found in Barbera. The acidity is there, of course, but matched by the richness of this old-vine wine, it is not an issue. A serious Barbera by any standards.
The 2007 Galina is more forward than the 2006 Roggeri and is a pleasure to drink now although, clearly, it has a long future ahead. Seemingly modern, compared with the tannic, classic Roggeri, it has an attractive layer of oak which some will enjoy whilst others may prefer to let it integrate with the wine. Plenty of fruit in both of these. | Drinking Dates: 2012 to 2030 | Cépagement: Nebbiolo/Barbera | Upbringing: See individual wines for details | Critic Reviews: 2006 Roggeri: "Subdued aromas but all necessary elements are there: black cherry fruit, orange rind and cinnamon sticks. Very fresh, juicy fruit palate, dark, bitter chocolate flavours and ripe, firm tannins. Excellent use of oak on this full-bodied wine. Very good potential." Decanter Award
2007 Galina: "Here’s a territory-driven Barolo with earthy notes of mushroom, barrel and pipe tobacco. You’ll also pick up hints of bacon fat or cured meat with tight, astringent tannins on the close. Hold for five years or more." 89/100 (Wine Enthusiast) |
