Masseria Surani (Puglia)
Puglia is renowned for full-flavoured wines that offer unparalled value for money. That certainly goes for the wines made at Surani by Paternoster's Fabio Mecca. The reds here are Primitivo (or Primitivo blended with Cabernet Sauvignon) with Fiano for the white. Despite the intense heat this southern Italian region can experience, the wines retain a welcome freshness. There's no denying the natural sweetness of the Primitivo though but it is kept in check, especially with 'Heracles'. The wines all start out at Tenuta Espéra, a 55 hectare estate in Manduria, in the heart of Salento area. The white is easy and fresh; the reds combine softness and drinkability with good personality.
